Post from the relic ;)

I kinda noticed the blog was gathering dust, so here’s a bite-sized post. Found this on Wikipedia.

The ideal choir singer should be able:

  • to sing precisely in tune (on the correct pitch) and with a vocal timbre (or color) which complements the other singers;
    I think we’re working towards this one :)
  • to sing at precisely controlled levels of volume, matching the dynamics marked in the score or prescribed by the conductor, and not sing so loudly as to be markedly detectable as an individual voice within the section;
    Okay, everyone including myself needs more work on that xD
  • to sight-read music fluently;
    Aiyo. If only la ;)
  • to read and pronounce the text accurately and in the pronunciation style specified by the leader, whatever the language may be. This includes correct diction, proper vowels and timing of diphthongs, and correct placement of consonants;
    … Walao. Seriously. So cool to be able to do that B)
  • to understand and interpret the music and to reflect that understanding in the vocal production of the music;
    This level of depth would be nice to work with.
  • to remain completely alert for long periods, monitoring closely what is going on in a rehearsal or performance;
    … well, it’s an ideal list for a reason… :P
  • to monitor one’s own singing and detect errors, correcting them as they go along,
    Most people can tell when they’re wrong, right?
  • to accept direction from others for the good of the group as a whole, even when the singer disagrees aesthetically with the instructions;
    Uh. No comment.
  • to produce a healthy and pleasing tone through the use proper vocal technique;
    Work in progress :D

MEETING!

August 28, 2009

So this time, it’s important so you guys have to pay attention to this one kay?

There’ll be a meeting the Friday school re-opens. That’s the 4th of September 2009 @ 12.30p.m. – 1.30p.m. As for the venue however, we’re not exactly completely sure where we’ll have it but just to be clear it’s either the School Hall or the 5 Arif classroom. I’ll be posting the confirmed venue on the notice board when we get back to school so remember to keep checking back.

By the way, we might be singing a couple of new tunes, y’know, just to widen our repertoire a bit. So, try to turn up yeah? :D

Just so you know

August 26, 2009

Hey all! This is a reallyyy short post just so Jess doesn’t come after me with a cleaver or something. Hehh. Yeahh, we all love you Jess :)

So if all of y’all haven’t already guessed this isn’t Jessica, then well, this isn’t Jessica ;D

Edelyn here but people call me Lyn cause it’s shorter and I know I’m side-tracking. Yeahh, I tend to do that. A lot. So this is basically just an inform post to tell you guys that I’m taking over the choir blog. Since Jess has her own stuffs to do what with her SPM and all that, she decided to dump it hand it over to me :D

So eahh, I’ll try my best to keep this blog up and running. Well, I kinda have to. Otherwise it’ll just stay here, lonely and forgotten,, rotting and collecting dust… Lyn, stop being so drama! :)

Anyways, keep coming back for more updates on events and what-nots. By the way, a eensy weensy reminder to keep checking the notice board in school. If there’s nothing in here,there’s everything in there.

Toodles.

All music is folk music. I ain’t never heard no horse sing a song.

P.S : I’ll be posting stuff along with a coupla music quotes I found. Pretty funny ones if you ask me :)

By the way…

July 31, 2009

Greetings and warmest salutations to all of you, CGL Choir 09 members. First and foremost, congratulations to the new AJK for 09/10! All the best in your future endeavours and may you continue to work, learn and grow together. Now, since I didn’t manage to make any of you cry during the AGM, I’m going to try and do it now xD

Thank you, every single one of you, for being a part of the school choir this year. Everything that we did this year wouldn’t have been achieved without you. I know some of you may be saying, ‘But we didn’t do anything all that bombastic this year!’ Let me say just this: It doesn’t matter, what glory we received or didn’t receive. It doesn’t matter at all, what titles we gained or lost. What really matters is that we made a difference, that choir meetings were something to look forward to (I hope the nagging didn’t put you off too much >.<) and that at the end of the day, we stuck together as a team.
Thank you so much, to Tricia and Min Yan, the superhuman AJK seniors, for tireless work, selfless sacrifices and constant support, even when it seemed like the president this year was a little bit balmy.
Thank you, Xing Yii, Poh Ean, Evon and Esther, for proving that quality > quantity. I’ll miss you guys so much.
Thank you, Lee Ting, for some of the best memories and practices. All the best with your senior year in CGL Choir <3
Thank you, Pei Ying, Shin Yee, Wai Kit, Li Ling, Su Zen and the rest of the form 4s 09, for showing that attitude and determination form a combo that trumps everything else in the long run.
Thank you, Edith, Rebekah, Edelyn, Wendy and Juwana, for your neverending enthusiasm and optimistic outlook. Working with kids of your calibre and talent is the best pick-me-up at the end of a long week.
Thank you, to the form 2 groupies: Clariss, Pinn Chen, Violet, Crystal, Jin Fo, Felicia, Wei Ling (there are just too many of you to mention all by name, so if I miss you out, forgive the memory of a little old lady like myself o.O). Having the opportunity to spend a little time every week observing your energy and spirit has taught me more than words can say.
Thank you, to the form 1 crowd: Sabrina, Hannah, Evelyn, Dhanusha, Sarah, Pravitha and Nicole (again, there are just so many of you, so just drop a comment if I missed your name and I promise I’ll make it up) for choosing to be a part of CGL Choir during your very first year in our school. You guys have so much potential; never, ever, stop learning about music.
And thank you, to our teacher-advisor, Pn Gwee, for trusting me enough to let me do all the crazy stuff I did, for every practice we wheedled, for the endless patience and guidance you never hesitated to provide throughout the five years we form 5s have been in choir. Having a good teacher-advisor is the first step to improving any society, and they don’t come any better than ours.
To everyone else who is reading this, whom I have not mentioned above: thank you for your support. Music yearns to be appreciated; it seeks to be understood and it craves to be enjoyed. Without an audience, whether of one or one thousand, performance is nothing. I know we can count on you to keep the choir alive.

It has been an honour to know you, and to be a part of the CGL Choir. I’ve told my friends that I can’t wait to leave school, but we all know that no matter how badly we want to grow up, there is always something that connects us to the past, that one reason that we will look back and wish that we could relive days long gone, despite the homework and stress and all the negative connotations associated with schooling life. There’s always a single golden bond, a favourite memory that cannot be erased. For me, that one piece of me that I leave behind is in the heart and music of the CGL Choir 09.
We have come so far together, and I am indescribably proud of how we have progressed. I will miss you all dearly. Take good care of each other, remember that a choir is a team and remember that music and the skills to perform it must always be respected, understood and cherished. Remember: don’t let the music stop.

Never stop singing.

God bless.

Look! New blog!

July 24, 2009

We have now officially upgraded to WordPress!! Woot! Okay. I (09 president) am still posting and admininstrating for now, but it won’t be long before I hand the keys 100% over to the new committee. I might stay around as an author (i.e. can post and delete and upload but overall everything else stays within the control of the new admin team) for a little while, but yeah. 09 is coming to an end and the new ajk will be taking over before very long. But I’ll let them talk about that. Will post about speech day soon! :D
